Therapy that Goes Beneath the Surface
Therapist NYC for Relationships, Creatives & Self Understanding
Depth-Oriented Virtual Psychotherapy for Adults and Couples in New York
On the surface, parts of your life may look like they’re working – or at least like they should be. But inside, something doesn’t feel right.
You may have achieved something you once wanted and still feel like something hasn’t shifted the way you hoped.
The same feelings, or the same relationship patterns, keep returning.
You might find that you:
Feel lonely in a relationship or exhausted by dating
Struggle to quiet a harsh inner critic
Feel like an impostor in your creative work, even when others are impressed
Notice the same relationship dynamics repeating, despite your best efforts
Picture a different life but feel unable to get there
Much of this comes down to how you relate: to yourself, to others, and to parts of yourself you may not fully understand yet.
Therapy can be a place to begin understanding why.
We’ll also pay attention to what happens between us. The way you experience me often reflects how you experience others. Understanding this together, in real time, can open up new ways of relating outside the therapy room.
You may have tried therapy before and felt like it stayed on the surface, focusing on symptoms rather than the deeper patterns shaping your life.
At Wonders of the Deep, we go beneath the surface.
We explore what’s there and wonder about it together.
We focus on unconscious patterns and relationship dynamics that shape how you experience yourself and others.
Therapy is one of the few places where the focus is entirely on you — your thoughts, your feelings, your inner world — and where deeper understanding can begin to create lasting change.
You don’t have to perform, impress, or take care of anyone else here.
How I work...
Hi, I’m Katherine. I’m glad you’re here.
I’m a therapist in NYC providing virtual psychotherapy to adults and couples across New York. My approach is psychodynamic and relational.
We might explore childhood experiences, early roles you stepped into, dreams, or feelings that are difficult to name. Patients are often surprised by how much wisdom their dreams hold. You can speak about anything here.
Often, people come to therapy already knowing, on some level, what they should do but find themselves unable to do it.
Rather than offering advice or quick solutions, we slow down and begin to understand what’s getting in the way — because something deeper is often driving the patterns that keep repeating.
I’ll also invite you to talk about your experience of me. Working through what unfolds between us can begin to shift how you experience yourself and others.
You could think of this as a kind of emotional deep-sea exploration — moving slowly, together, toward what’s beneath the surface, and allowing yourself to wonder about what you find.
What It Feels Like to Work With Me
Patients often tell me they feel genuinely seen in ways they haven’t before. They feel held in mind even between sessions.
The work can go deeper than they expect.
Over time, many people find themselves becoming more curious about their own minds, even a little amazed by what’s there.
They can explore difficult feelings safely, even when those feelings include me.
We can laugh together. We can also sit with what’s painful.
I won’t center myself. Therapy is for you.
Sometimes this space feels unfamiliar at first, especially if you’re used to needing to get things right or stay in control.
Eventually, therapy becomes somewhere you can think and feel more freely — and get in touch with your true self.
Who This Work is For
This work tends to resonate with people who:
Are curious about themselves, even when the answers aren’t obvious
Are open to exploring patterns in their relationships
Can commit to weekly (or more frequent) sessions
You don’t have to have it all figured out.
Just a willingness to look at what’s there is enough.
If you’re looking for structured worksheets, short-term skills, or immediate solutions, another approach may serve you better.
Or, you may find yourself wondering what’s underneath that pull.
